Sustainable Energy-BiomassThe Global Environmental Facility (GEF) has approved a project under its Climate Change Focal Area, entitled, “Promoting sustainable energy production and use from biomass in Pakistan.” The overall objective of the project is to promote market based adoption of modern biomass energy conversion technologies for process heat and power generation in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) and electrify rural areas in Pakistan. Part of the process is to support the adoption of biomass gasification technologies in SMEs. Gasification of biomass can be a reliable solution for the industrial sector to the pressing issue in Pakistan. Biomass gasification technology employees the feedstock/biomass such as rice husk, wheat straw and other crop residues as an efficient energy material.
Introduction of BGTs in Pakistan will not only help curb the growing energy needs but also take development a step ahead. The available biomass potential in Pakistan has been estimated to 85.5 trillion tonnes and is expected to rise up to 152.2 trillion tonnes in the year 2030. Based on these stats and prospects of biomass potential, the project has been designed to switch the industries from conventional means of energy to the innovative sources such as biomass to energy to strengthen the industrial sector of Pakistan.
Gasification is a process of conversion of solid carbonaceous fuel into combustible gas by partial combustion. The biomass gasification involves the gasification of agricultural and other solid waste to produce energy. 1st International Conference and Expo Please Visit us for Delegates registration & booking of stalls www.bgtconference.com
